Microsoft has shared some new Windows Live Messenger stats, confirming that more than 300 million people in 76 countries and 48 languages use Messenger every month.

The Windows Live Social Networking team also shared individual statistics for country specific Messenger users but did not include the United States. Microsoft’s Jeff Kunins, Group Program Manager, Windows Live social networking admitted that the company’s Instant Messenger had been “somewhat less positive” in popularity within the U.S. AOL’s AIM software still dominates the U.S. market with approximately 50% market share.

Microsoft is nearing a beta release of their Wave 4 set of products that includes an updated Windows Live Messenger application. BlogoFlux exclusively revealed screenshots of Windows Live Messenger 2010 in December 2009. According to our sources a beta build of Wave 4 is due end of March/early April.

BlogoFlux has obtained a list of statistics that relate to the Office 2010 beta and Office 2007. Listed below are the statistic that were generated by the users who responded in the December 2009 beta survey and also from anonymous reporting from the office applications.

Office and Office 2007 Momentum

  • 41 billion minutes in Outlook
  • 31 billion minutes in Word
  • 18 billion minutes in Excel
  • 3 billion minutes in PowerPoint
  • In October 2009, US online PC users spent more time in PowerPoint than in Halo 2 on the PC
  • In October 2009, US online PC users spent more time in Excel than QuickBooks
  • >500 M people worldwide use Office at work, home and school
  • Approximately 250 M people worldwide use Office at home

Office 2010 Beta momentum

  • More than 2.5 million people have downloaded the Office 2010 beta so far
  • Over 80% of beta users have encouraged others to download the Office 2010 beta
  • Over 75% of beta users are satisfied with the Office 2010 beta
  • 9 out of 10 beta users feel that the Office 2010 beta is an improvement over their current productivity suite
  • More than 2 out of 3 beta users think the Ribbon makes it easier to discover new features
  • 75% think BackStage view makes Office a better overall experience
  • More than 4 out of 5 beta users who have used Sparklines in Excel 2010 say it makes their data in Excel easier to interpret
  • 90% of beta users who have used PowerPoint photo editing believe they have saved time by not using another application

College age students have the slowest growth on Facebook but older people have a growth of over 200%.

With Firefox 3.5 being recently released, and hitting five million downloads in 24 hours, Firefox appears to be gaining more market share, and Internet Explorer’s market share is slipping according to Favbrowser, and a graph by statcounter shown below.

Internet Explorer fell from 62.09% to 59.49%, while Firefox rose from 28.75% to 30.33%. But Firefox isn’t the only browser that’s gaining market share. Opera, recently released the beta version of version 10 of its browser, rose from 3.23% to 3.36%, Safari, recently released version 4 of its browser and hitting 11 million downloads in three days, rose from 2.65% to 2.93%, and Chrome rose from 2.42% to 2.82%.
