If you have been waiting for your invitation to get into the Office 2011 beta for OS X, check your inbox. we are tipped off by a reader that invites for the beta have been sent out by Microsoft. The current build number is 100709.
The email states, “The Office for Mac 2011 beta is closed to the public, which means ALL Office 2011 tools and features are confidential and proprietary to Microsoft. By participating in the beta, you consent to a non-disclosure agreement which includes all forms of communication including print, broadcast, electronic, Internet publications, social media networking sites, blogs, and verbal disclosure. The NDA will not lift until the product is public later this year. We will update on timing closer to the date.”
Office 2011 for Mac is currently in the beta testing phase. Microsoft issued a beta 3 update in late May which included brand new splash screens, icons and minor tweaks to several toolbar and ribbon icons. Office for Mac won’t come with all the components that are available in Office Professional Plus for Windows, but will support Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Office 2011 for Mac will be the first time Outlook is available on the Mac, offering similar functionality and appearance, including a Mac inspired theme ribbon, as Outlook 2010 for Windows.
Office for Mac 2011 will also allow for multiple document editing, so users can edit the same document at the same time, without getting a lockout notice. Office for Mac will include document sharing with other Mac and Windows office users, through SharePoint, SkyDrive and web apps. Microsoft officials say Office 2011 for Mac will be available this holiday season.

Steve Jobs is trying to make news in as few words as possible these days. We thought it was pretty succinct of Jobs to answer “Sorry, no” to a customers query about iPhone 2G support, but this one officially takes the cake.
According to Macstories.net, Mac developer Fernando Valente sent an email to Jobs wondering about the rumors that Apple was going to release a Mac Store with OS X 10.7, a store with apps developed for Apple’s flagship Operating System. Jobs’ answer was simply:
“Nope.”
The rumors were based on a few announcements from Rixstep, a big Apple developer, about apps built for 10.7 having to be submitted to an App Store for approval before release. 9to5Mac.com tied this, and other knowledge about the quietly developed 10.7 update, into a theory that there would be an iPhone-like App Store for OS X in the future.
Well, in the words of the eloquent Jobs, “nope.” That settles it then.

Boy Genius has posted some early screenshots of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac. The screenshots reveal development on Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2011.
Much like Microsoft Office 2010 appearance, Office 2011 for Mac includes the ribbon on every application. This will also be the first time Outlook will be available in the Office Suite for the Mac. The appearance between Outlook for Windows and Mac appear to be similar, including a mail preview pane, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes available for use.
The screenshots also show a quick search in the toolbar for Outlook, Excel, and Word, for searching within your inbox, spreadsheet, or documents. Office 2011 is also said to include the same multi-use feature that Office 2010 includes, allowing for you and your co-worker to work on the same document at the same time.
